Eating

It is vitally important to move away from eating too much or too frequently. Adding gap of at least 4 hours after meals before the next meal helps a lot. Thereafter, you shall eat when you are feeling really hungry. Make sure that you are able to distinguish hunger pangs from real hunger. One way to do is to drink water when you have first feel of being hungry. This will settle hunger for some time. Gaining time allows the body to digest the food fully.

Eating more than wanted is something which is again a problem and adds to gas and acidity. The best way to control eating too much is to do mindful eating and slow down the process. You shall set the target to consume your regular quantity of meal in about 30 minutes. By this time, the body will tell if it needs more food or not.

What you are eating or not eating also contributes to the problem of acidity, heartburn or gas. Too much of fried items shall be avoided. Non-citrus fruits shall be incorporated in diet. Some fruits shall as banana and apple are good. Taking a cup of cold milk gives instant relief from gas. This is good to have after the meals as it prevents heartburn. Avoid too much of tea or coffee, and keep a larger proportion of milk in it as compared to tea or coffee.

Do not discount the benefits of diversifying the food habits to include raw vegetables such as carrot, nuts such as almonds, groundnuts, apricots and cashews and other such naturally occurring seasonal products. Again, moderation in eating shall be observed for the best benefits.

Movement

If you are leading a sedentary lifestyle, you are likely to get these problems sooner than later. The movement of physical body is important for getting relief from gas or acidity. Walking at slow pace is good for relieving the gas and digesting the food. A little stretch of legs sideways with forward bending of spine is also a good way of relieving gas. Walking after about 30 minutes from taking the meals and for a period of about 40 minutes is good. This will help you not to go to bed with a heavy stomach.

Breathing exercises, particularly Anulom Vilom and Kapalbhati Pranayams, are also good for letting the gas go off and you feel lightness.

Walking, stretching or breathing exercises shall be performed for some duration. You must retain the poses for some time or keep on walking or doing pranayama for sometime in order to experience the relief.

Peace of Mind

One of the prominent reasons of developing issue of acidity and gas is due to anxiety and stress. These mental condition does not permit the food to be digested and assimilated properly. Some people can even do overeating under stress which further aggravates the problem. Therefore, practicing mindfulness mediation helps a lot.
