Common Home Remedies for Acidity and Gas Problem

 


Acidity and gastric problems are quite common among the humans. In most of the situations, the medication is not needed and one can resolve the gas or acidity problem using the common home remedies. Most of the items available in our home, particularly the kitchen, are quite effective in treating this condition.

1.  Use of cold milk- Cold milk which has the fat skimmed out, is one of the most common remedy for fighting acidity. Half a cup of cold milk after having the meals is one of the best ways of preventing occurrence of acidity.

2.  Use of Banana- Ripe bananas are good for controlling acidity. These are high in potassium content which provides the alkanity to neutralize the acidic medium in stomach. Therefore, it helps in relieving acidity or acid-reflux.

3.  Almonds- Having some almonds everyday can have a beneficial effect on acidity situation. The acidity in stomach can be neutralized by the alkaline nature of almonds.

4.  Apple cider vinegar- This is one of the items most commonly found in kitchens. You just have to take two spoons of apple cider vinegar in water before meals in order to maintain alkaline medium in stomach which prevents occurrence of acidity.

5.  Jaggery- Most of the Indian households have jiggery (or the ‘gur’). It has been eaten traditionally after meals as it is believed to aid digestion of food. This is a sweet product. Therefore, the diabetic people are not advised to consume it. However, this can be taken by normal people. If jaggery is not refined, it contains potassium which works to reduce the levels of acidity in stomach.

6.  Chewing gum- Chewing the chewing gum produces more saliva which is taken in more in stomach. This increase in saliva levels in stomach works as an anti-dot to acidity.

7.  Aloe Vera Juice- Aloe vera is considered as one important medicine for a number of illnesses. Regular intake of Aloe Aera juice, along with the Amla juice, is considered to be good for digestion related problems. The juice is one of the best long-term remedies of the acidity problem.

8.  Basil Leaves- Chewing a few basil leaves is also considered to be a good way of treating acid reflux. It helps produce more mucous to counter the effect of acidic juices. These leaves can even be added to the boiling water and then the water can be drunk.

9.  Fennel Seeds- These are called ‘Saunf’ in Hindi. Chewing fennel seeds is another good way of getting relief from acidity and gas. These have anti-inflammatory effect and also prevent constriction of gastro-intestinal tract which helps in digestion. These seeds can be eaten directly or be boiled in water and water be drunk.

10.              Cumin Seeds- These are called ‘Jeera’ in Hindi. These also have anti-ulcer and anti-inflammatory properties. You can drink the water after boiling these seeds in it for instant relief.
