Hatha Yoga classes in Delhi-Traditional to Modern Approach

The city of Delhi is one of the prime cities of India where life moves really fast. The lifestyle of people has undergone a change to modernity and one aspect of this change in the recent years, is the realization of importance of yoga. This has led to sprouting of various types of yoga centres in the city in last two decades.

It is a fact that wellness is business. For people who are in command of the any aspect of wellness, can earn a living for themselves. This is also true of the yoga trainers who have take to the business of providing yoga classes in Delhi to make good money. And, there is no dearth of takers of yoga sessions because it is definitely one important and major aspect of wellness culture.

Popular Variants of Traditional Yoga

It must be said that the purest form of traditional Hatha yoga, which was propounded by Patanjali has also gone undergone changes and different variants have emerged. The trainers in Delhi, depending on their own specialties, have modified traditional practices to match with the likes of people. Consumerism has, therefore, been the key factor for introduction of these modifications. Aerial yoga, Power yoga, Iyengar and Nada yoga (dance and music with yoga) are some of the interesting variations.

There is nothing to suggest on the usefulness and effectiveness of these practices which are taught in some of yoga studios of Delhi. But, these are quite popular as it gives people ‘fun’ along with practice of yoga poses.

An important point to note is that Iyengar style is also a form of the traditional yoga but there is introduction of props or certain articles which help in attaining the right posture because in this style the right posture is emphasized more than in other styles of yoga.

Another variant, Ashtanga Vinyasa, is also based on Hatha but with the difference that the breathing patterns are also inbuilt in the course of doing asanas and certain asanas are done in a particular sequence.

Similarly, Power yoga is also a derivative of the traditional one.

So, all of these have foundation in hatha yoga only.

What is in the Course?

Since there is a good deal of blending of some of self-created elements in yoga practice by the young trainers, the exact nature of the poses and workouts must be checked before joining the classes. Just because a particular yoga centre advertises itself as Hatha yoga centre does not mean that it will be adhering to the traditional Hatha yoga practices. Therefore, what is to be taught in the class shall be enquired for.

Looking for Traditional Hatha Yoga?

If you are interested in the conventional and not contemporary form of yoga style, then some centres provide the same. National Institute of Yoga, which was set up under the aegis of Government of India, is one such institute where only this traditional form is taught.
